Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has revealed the club missed out on signing Arsenal star Patrick Vieira back in the summer of 2004.

However, he was a top target for the Spanish giants who eventually slipped away, though he left Highbury the following summer as he made the move to Juventus.

Quoted in the Daily Mirror talking about the failed David de Gea move this summer, Perez said: “We have missed out on players before, Franck Ribery and Patrick Vieira for example.”
