Stones to Chelsea: Blues to offer Everton £8m midfielder swap in January transfer deal

Jose Mourinho will try again to bring Everton defender John Stones to Chelsea in the January transfer window by offering a player in exchange, according to The Sun.

Club insiders have supposedly revealed that the Blues intend to revive their interest in the England international despite failing to land him during the summer, and that the inclusion of highly-rated youngster Bertrand Traore could help to swing the deal.

Valued by Chelsea at around £8m [according to The Sun], Traore is a highly-regarded talent in attacking midfield and could be a player whose potential appeals to Everton as they look to build a strong side for the future.

Roberto Martinez has done well to build this Toffees side with other exciting youth players, with Stones joining Ross Barkley in breaking into the club’s first-team, with the latter a product of the Everton academy.

Although the Merseysiders have been firm with their stance on Stones, The Sun suggests there could still be the chance of a deal in the winter, with Chelsea hopeful of getting the player’s price down by offering Traore in return.

Borussia Dortmund are mentioned as a club to have shown an interest in the 19-year-old starlet in recent times, but Jose Mourinho has been keen to hold onto him until now.

Stones himself put in a transfer request at Goodison Park this summer, according to the Daily Express, only for the club to reject it.
