Manchester United boss to hold ‘clear-the-air’ talks with unsettled star ahead of Liverpool clash

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is set to hold clear-the-air talks with David De Gea, reports the Daily Express.

The Dutchman is ready to recall the 24-year-old for their match with Liverpool on Saturday, but will first talk with the Spain international. It will be the first time that the 63-year-old has spoken to the player about his failed move to Real Madrid, which only fell through as some of the necessary paperwork wasn’t filed in time.

The goalkeeper started for his country in their 0-1 victory over Macedonia on Tuesday, and now believes that he is ready to make an impact at Old Trafford.

“I wanted to play and now we’ll see after the international break if I’m lucky with my club,” De Gea said, “My future’s going to be the same as it is now: I’m calm; I’ll keep working and improving – in short, I’m enjoying my football and I’m happy.”

Sergio Romero has been between the sticks during De Gea’s enforced absence, but will likely lose his place to the former Atletico Madrid man immediately if van Gaal decides he is ready to play. The Argentina international has been criticised for his performance in the defeat to Swansea City, and in the last two seasons he wasn’t number one for Sampdoria or AS Monaco.
