CONFIRMED: Manchester United open contract talks with unsettled Spanish goalkeeper

Manchester United have opened talks with goalkeeper David de Gea over a new contract, BBC Sport reports.

The Spaniard looked set to depart Old Trafford during the summer transfer window and join Liga BBVA giants Real Madrid, however the proposed deal fell through in spectacular fashion on deadline day and he was forced to remain in England.

There has since been speculation that de Gea could still complete a move to the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the season when his current deal with the Red Devils expires, however, the Premier League giants have moved to tie down the 24-year-old’s future.

Jorge Mendes, who is the Spanish international’s agent, attended the club’s training complex on Thursday and reportedly negotiations over a contract extension took place between the two parties.
