Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has performed a stunning u-turn and committed his future to the club by signing a new four-year-deal and this has evoked a huge reaction on social media.
The Spaniard had looked certain to depart Old Trafford throughout the summer transfer window as manager Louis van Gaal left him out of the club’s first six games of the new season because of speculation surrounding his future in England.
On transfer deadline day it appeared de Gea was set to join Liga BBVA giants Real Madrid in a swap deal that would have seen Keylor Navas head in the opposite direction.
However, the proposed deal collapsed in quite extraordinary fashion as the paperwork was not submitted to the La Liga headquarters in time and the 24-year-old was forced to remain in Manchester.

There had been suggestions that Los Blancos would look to sign de Gea on a free transfer next summer, but that possibility has been ruled out following confirmation of his new deal with the Red Devils and a selection of the club’s supporters have reacted on Twitter:
Massive victory to United & fans, well & truly owned Perez & Madrid ????????????????????? #DaveStays
