Chelsea target has ‘agreement in place’ to sign for Barcelona, deal could be done in January

Chelsea look set to miss out on the signing of Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba, with Barcelona leading the race for his signature, according to Mundo Deportivo via Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Blues are said to have failed with a summer bid for the French international, despite offering Brazilian playmaker Oscar in return as part of the deal.

Pogba has long been regarded as one of the best young players in world football, having shone in Serie A since leaving Manchester United earlier in his career, when he’d failed to make a breakthrough in the first-team at Old Trafford.

Still, the 22-year-old is now wanted by a host of big names, and Gazzetta claim that Barcelona look the most likely to strike a deal for him to move to the Nou Camp next season. Referencing the Spanish source, Gazzetta report that Barca have an ‘agreement in place’ to sign the French international.

However, additional information from the Daily Star suggests Pogba could move to Barca as soon as January, with the Catalan giants set to bring in some new faces at the end of their transfer ban.

Reports earlier this week also suggested the Liga BBVA champions could be eyeing up other big-name buys like Manchester City winger Jesus Navas, as well as several others as they seek a replacement out wide for Chelsea new-boy Pedro, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Central midfield is a position the club do with strengthening as well, with legendary playmaker Xavi leaving the club at the end of last season.
