Statistics have emerged that prove Arsenal star Francis Coquelin is among the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League.
The 24-year-old has gone from strength to strength since breaking in to the Gunners’ first team last December. However, his performances at the beginning of this season have been suspect, especially during their 1-2 victory over Crystal Palace.

Despite this, the Frenchman has actually won more tackles than any other player in the Premier League during the campaign. Being a key part of a defensive midfielder’s job, this proves that he is among the best in the division. Even the likes of Nemanja Matic and Morgan Schneiderlin can’t match it.

The North Londoners made a shaky start to the season, losing to West Ham on the opening weekend. They have picked up their results now though, and are no five points behind Manchester City in second. With the implosion of Chelsea, if they are able to continue improving they could become the Citizens’ only real competition for the title.
