Juventus legend comments on Paul Pogba to Man City transfer rumours ahead of Champions League bout

Speaking ahead of Manchester City’s Champions League clash with Juventus, Alessandro Del Piero has insisted that the Italian champions are not looking to offload midfielder Paul Pogba.

The French international had been heavily linked with a move away from the Old Lady throughout the summer, with City just one of the clubs linked to his signature [Gianluca Buffon’s interview in the Mirror].

Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain were also linked to the player’s signature earlier in the summer [Daily Star], while Chelsea were understood to have made a late move for the powerful midfielder towards the end of the window [Independent].

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Tuesday’s clash, Del Piero has stated his understanding that the French midfielder is not for sale, while praising his immense qualities.

“Pogba is a great player – and he is improving. He has a rare talent and is unique,” the veteran forward began.

“He has great mobility and technique, combined with an impressive physicality. Pogba to Man City? He’s with Juve and I don’t think he’s for sale, at least not in the immediate future.”

Del Piero—who won the Champions League with Juve in 1996 and was a runner-up on three occasions—also took a moment to praise Sergio Aguero, placing him among the best in the world in various aspects of his game.

“I’m not sure exactly where he ranks,” Del Piero began, when asked where the Argentine forward ranked among the world’s best strikers, “but he’s certainly among the best in the world for speed, natural ability and strength of character.

“We saw this when he plays for the national team at the World Cup and always plays to the best of his ability even when the pressure is on.”

While Pogba will likely take to the field when the two European heavyweights meet on Tuesday evening, Aguero will not be present due to injury.

The Argentine forward will likely be replaced in the starting XI by Wilfried Bony, who will likely have David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling offering support from the midfield.

Pogba will likely feature on the left of Juventus’ 4-3-1-2 formation, and the former Manchester United man’s midfield battle with fellow powerhouse Yaya Toure should be a magnificent contest.
