Manchester United winger offers his services as new Old Trafford striker

Man United wide-man Ashley Young believes he is capable of filling the Old Trafford striking void if Louis van Gaal deems is necessary according to Goal.com.

Van Gaal opted to sell Robin van Persie to Fenerbahce over the summer and failed with a big money move for Thomas Muller before investing an initial £36m in a deal to bring in French youngster Anthony Martial.

With Wayne Rooney sidelined the Man United boss elected to use Marouane Fellaini as his central striking option against Liverpool, with mixed results, and brought on Martial, who duly netted on his debut.

Now England international Young has let van Gaal know he is willing and able to play in the role if needed, the former Aston Villa man stating;

“If the manager wants me to play there then yes, of course I would,” he told reporters.

“I can play in lots of positions and I have done that under the manager, whether it is up front or in midfield. Hopefully I can play there [through the middle] but it’s up to the manager.”

“He has said it to me before, but it is down to him. He has that headache of picking the team, so rather him than me.” Young added.
