Real Madrid want Chelsea target as replacement for Man United bound defender

Real Madrid are concerned they may see centre-back Raphael Varane leave for Man United and are ready to make a move for Everton defender John Stones as a potential replacement for the French international according to AS.

21-year-old Goodison Park starlet Stones was the subject of multiple failed Chelsea bids over the summer and the Toffees may fail to prevent similar moves in January and Rafa Benitez hopes to outdo Jose Mourinho in his move for the England international.

John Stones has been in good form this term, which will have pleasantly surprised boss Roberto Martinez who may have expected the youngster’s head to drop due to a summer switch to Stamford Bridge not coming to fruition.

Chelsea saw first hand what the Everton man is capable of as John Stones helped keep things tight at the back as the Merseyside outfit completed a 3-1 win over the Blues over the weekend.
