Paris Saint-Germain coach Laurent Blanc has expressed his conviction that new signing Angel Di Maria will be a big hit at the Parc des Princes.

The Argentine winger was the subject of a high-profile transfer from Manchester United to PSG this summer, and has wasted little time endearing himself to his new employers.

Di Maria marked his debut with a superb assist, and on his Champions League debut for the French side—at home against Malmo on Tuesday evening—he again shone.

The forward opened the scoring inside the first five minutes, and clearly appears much happier with life in France.

Speaking to reporters after the match, as per Goal, the coach expressed his delight at the wideman’s performance: “Di Maria is rising to the top. He arrived late to the preparation and he was injured too,” the manager began.

“I think we were right to put him to work physically and rest him. He will need it. He needs competition right now.

“He didn’t play 90 minutes but you can see his abilities in front of the goal already. This boy can bring us quality and assists but also a certain number of goals.

I talked to him about that. He told me he did not score a lot, but I think he is capable of that.”

Di Maria—who is still finding his way back to full fitness—was replaced late on by Ezequiel Lavezzi. The early signs suggest that the South American will prove to be a huge asset for the French champions as they look to make the semi-finals of Europe’s premier club competition.
