Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho to axe quartet for Champions League opener

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is set to drop a number of his top stars for Wednesday night’s Champions League clash with Maccabi Tel Aviv according to The Sun.

The Blues have suffered their worst start to a domestic campaign since 1988 with Mourinho’s side collecting just four points from their opening five Premier League fixtures.

Chelsea have already suffered three Premier League defeats, the same number they racked up in the entire 2014/15 campaign, and Mourinho is clearly ready to send a message to his senior players.

John Terry, Branislav Ivanovic, Diego Costa and Nemanja Matic are all set to miss out as Chelsea face Israeli champions Maccabi Tel Aviv in their Champions League opener.

Mourinho was open about his intentions to mix things up for the Champions League clash during his pre-match press conference, stating;

“I will make a couple of changes because I have to try a different dynamic.”

“I have to try a couple of different faces and to give chances to people who have not been playing but have been working hard.

“If I leave out Azpilicueta it’s because I have a problem with him. Same with Terry, same with Fabregas. I know the consequences.

“But I cannot be worried about what you say or write. I just have to worry about my team and players.”
