Liverpool star to be offered new contract despite making ZERO appearances

Liverpool star Mamadou Sakho is set to be offered a new contract by manager Brendan Rodgers, reports the Daily Star.

The Frenchman is yet to play a single game for the Reds this season, making this revelation particularly surprising. Over the last two campaigns the 25-year-old has only made 34 Premier League appearances, not living up to his £18 million price tag [BBC].

“Mama is a player we want to keep,” he said, “It was a difficult start for him, like all the players. We won the first few games so it was difficult for him to get in the team.

“After the international break he was always going to be needed. He will start (against Bordeaux in the Europa League) and we want to extend his contract.”

So far this time round the Northern Irishman has prefered to play Martin Skrtel and Dejan Lovren at centre-back, despite the latter’s struggles last season. The pair have been solid if unspectacular at the back, conceding six times in the five matches to date. However, their capitulation in the 3-1 loss to Manchester United may have Rodgers re-thinking the pairing.
