Two of the Premier League’s would-be title contenders meet at Stamford Bridge on Saturday in an early heavyweight battle.
However, while the Pensioners and the Gunners are would-be champions in name and stature, their performances so far this season have done little to commend them.
Chelsea, in particular, are enduring a horrible start to the season, having won one and drawn one of their five games to date. Of the three losses, the demolition at the hands of Manchester City will have been hard to take, while recent defeats to Crystal Palace and Everton have outlined some of the problems in Jose Mourinho’s squad.
He will be hoping to return to winning ways against an Arsenal side who were themselves undone by Dinamo Zagreb in a shock Champions League defeat in midweek.
Petr Cech was missing for that match as David Ospina returned to the starting XI, but the former Blues keeper will likely start between the sticks against the Blues-a first return to Stamford Bridge since his departure last term.
Mourinho has insisted that Cech will be welcomed back into the Chelsea dressing room with open arms after the match. although the Portuguese coach will surely be desperate for his former charge to struggle upon his return to Stamford Bridge.
