Two-goal Tottenham hero hails “amazing” fans after marking home debut in stunning fashion

Heung-min Son praised the Tottenham Hotspur supporters after his brace inspired the club to victory over FK Qarabag in their Europa League opener on Thursday night, Standard Sport reports.

The 23-year-old made his first appearance at White Hart Lane since his £22million move from Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen during the summer transfer window and began the game in the centre-forward role instead of Harry Kane.

Spurs had fallen behind to the Azerbaijani champions inside the first 10 minutes as debutant Kieran Trippier conceded a penalty, which Richard Almeida converted to the give the visitors a shock lead in north London.

However, Son opened his account for the club with the equaliser in the 28th minute and then grabbed his second moments later as brilliant work from youngster Dele Alli presented the South Korean forward with a simple tap-in.

Speaking after the game, Son took the opportunity to thanks the fans for giving him a great welcome on his home debut.

“The fans were amazing. It was great at White Hart Lane. It was amazing.”

“The first half was not the best but we’re happy to win,” an elated Son said.
