Arsenal and Liverpool face new competition to sign France international striker

Newcastle United are interested in signing Lyon star Alexandre Lacazette despite his recent form, reports the Daily Mirror.

The 24-year-old was sensational last season, scoring 27 goals as the top scorer Ligue 1. However, this time round, he hasn’t hit the back of the net in 706 minutes of action. The Magpies are still interested though, perhaps because of their striking problems.

Aleksandar Mitrovic has struggled since arriving in the Premier League, with disciplinary issues marring his undoubted talent. As a team, the Toon have managed only three goals in the opening six matches, and are lying in 19th place as a result.

Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea have also been linked to the France international, but could be put off by his current form. The player himself may be less keen to join those sides as well, as he needs to be guaranteed first team football in order to play at Euro 2016. Having also just signed a four-year contract with Lyon, it would take a monumental effort to prise the striker away from the Stade Gerland.
