Manchester United considered return for veteran.

Manchester United nearly made the surprise move to re-sign Dimitar Berbatov on transfer deadline day this summer, due to a shortage of options up front.

The Bulgarian veteran was a free agent in the summer after leaving AS Monaco, though he ended up joining Greek giants PAOK instead as the Red Devils decided against a deal.

Berbatov was a big hit at Old Trafford earlier in his career, though he fell out of favour towards the end of his time with the club and was sometimes criticised for a lack of energy in his game.

Still, his agent offered his services to United this summer, according to the Daily Mirror, in what would have been a popular move for some fans, and particularly neutrals, who have long enjoyed his languid and stylish manner on the pitch.
