Manchester United: Worrying stat undermines Southampton victory

Posted by

While Manchester United ought to be delighted with their 3-2 triumph away at Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday, the form of Wayne Rooney will continue to concern Louis van Gaal.

As this stat from Squawka demonstrates, the England frontman has not scored in 11 Premier League matches, a run translating to 953 minutes without a goal.

It will come as a great concern for LVG, for whom Rooney is a leading offensive option.

Intriguingly, while the Scouse hitman is struggling at club level, he really became England’s all-time record scorer after completing his half century and overtaking Sir Bobby Charlton’s long-standing record.

While Rooney impressed for the Three Lions, his struggles for the Red Devils persisted against Southampton, where he was outshone by new United arrival Anthony Martial.

The young French forward moved to Old Trafford this summer in a big-money move from AS Monaco, and has hit the ground running. The international striker has his three goals in his last two EPL outings—including two against the Saints—and Rooney must surely be wondering what he has to do to get a slice of his new teammate’s fortune.
