With three goals in just over 100 minutes in the Premier League, Manchester United striker Anthony Martial‘s stock has sky-rocketed – and the odds on him becoming the next scoring king have plummeted.
According to the Metro, Paddy Power has slashed the odds on Martial winning the Golden Boot – dropping from 40/1 to to just 16/1 – which ties him in third place along with Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson and Liverpool’s Christian Benteke.
The change comes on the heels of a stunning brace for the 19-year-old French wonderkid against Southampton en route to a 3-2 victory that moved the Red Devils into second place in the Premier League table.
United signed Martial in a shock £36 million transfer from Monaco in the final hours of the transfer window that left many experts scratching their heads. Martial answered those concerns in his debut for Man United, scoring a goal just minutes after coming on as a substitute in a 3-1 win over Liverpool.
Notably, Man City striker Sergio Aguero remains the overwhelming favourite to win the title at 3/1 odds, while Chelsea scoring machine Diego Costa ranks second with 12/1 odds.
Should Martial claim the coveted scoring title, he would become the third French footballer to win the title, joining the legendary Thierry Henry (Arsenal, ’02, ’04-’06) as well as Nicolas Anelka (Chelsea, ’09).
