Arsenal: Arsene Wenger explains why he didn’t sign Manchester United star when he had the chance

Things are just going from bad to worse for Arsenal fans.

Not only are the Gunners on a two-match losing streak, after falling to defeats against Dinamo Zagreb and Chelsea, they have also seen their forwards come under scrutiny.

Olivier Giroud was dismissed against the Croatian side in the Champions League, and has hardly convinced in attack, while it remains to be seen whether Theo Walcott can lead the line for would-be title contenders.

This comes in contrast to Manchester United, who invested heavily in Anthony Martial and look to be reaping the rewards.

The French frontman has scored three goals in his last two games, and looks to have the quality to thrive for the Red Devils this season.

Speaking to Joe, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that he actively opted not to move for Martial after dismissing him as an option to lead the line for the North London side.

“We have known him [Martial] since he was a kid. But he’s more of a winger-type,” the manager began.

“He’s an exceptional talent I agree with you, but I believe that he plays in positions where we have players like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Alexis Sanchez and Joel Campbell who can play in the position.”
