Manchester United defender placed at top of Napoli January transfer wishlist

Serie A side Napoli have placed Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo at the top of their January transfer wishlist according to Gazzetta dello Sport, via the Daily Express.

The 25-year-old Argentine struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League during his debut season at Old Trafford and has only started one of Man United’s opening six Premier League fixtures in 2015/16.

The versatile defensive weapon has found his route to a centre-back spot blocked by Daley Blind this term, and has only been used to fill the left-back berth following the long-term injury suffered by Luke Shaw during Man United’s Champions League defeat to PSV Eindhoven last week.

Rojo is said to have fallen out with boss Louis van Gaal (Daily Mail) following a ‘passport issue’ that affected his involvement in pre-season plans (via Manchester Evening News).

The Daily Express claim Napoli made their interest in Rojo known over the summer and, having seen his side concede six goals in their opening four Serie A fixtures, Maurizio Sarri could well do with strengthening his defence.

Man United signed Rojo from Sporting Lisbon in August 2014 and he has made 27 appearances for the Premier League side.
