Chelsea plot €20m move to sign Barcelona wide-man to help resolve problem area

Chelsea are readying a bid for Barcelona right-back Dani Alves with Jose Mourinho keen to replace error prone Branislav Ivanovic according to TuttoMercato.

The Stamford Bridge side are set to offer €20m (£14.7m) for Brazilian star Alves, a fairly generous fee given that the experienced wide-man is now 32 years of age.

Serbian international has recently been named Chelsea captain, in the absence of benched defender John Terry, but this hasn’t lessened the pressure on the right-back, who has struggled for form this season.

Dani Alves signed a new two year Nou Camp contract in June and is still Luis Enrique’s first choice starter but a fresh challenge may tempt the former Sevilla man, especially given a move to Chelsea would almost certainly lead to the Barcelona man receiving a significant pay-rise.

Having won all the honours available to him during his seven years at Barcelona, including five La Liga crowns and three Champions League winners’ medals, Dani Alves may feel he has achieved all he can at the Catalan giants and this too could represent motivation for a move to Stamford Bridge.
