Lee Carsley will take charge of Brentford for the first time when they take on Birmingham tonight.
The former Everton and Republic of Ireland midfielder replaced Marinus Dijkhuizen, having previously been in charge of Brentford’s development squad.
Carsley has been put in charge until the end of the season and he will assume the reins with a ringing endorsement from his chairman Cliff Crown.
Speaking to Brentford’s official website Crown said of the new man, “Lee has shown with the Under-21s he is an outstanding leader. His work at the training ground has been hugely impressive whilst coaching the development squad and has demonstrated he understands the club’s philosophy and the ambitions of Brentford FC.
“We believe these qualities will help Lee settle into his new role effectively and quickly.
“Rest assured, we are determined to do everything possible to achieve the success you, the supporters, desire.
“Lee’s appointment, at this time, is key to that and we will be doing everything in our power to support him and the rest of the staff.”
He will hope to make an immediate impact with Brentford currently 19th in the table with 8 points from 8 games.
The club have suffered terribly with injuries this season and that will be the case again on Tuesday with Akaki Gogia (thigh), Philipp Hofmann (abdominal) and Maxime Colin (knee) all missing out while James Tarkowski is suspended.
Birmingham meanwhile are sweating on the fitness of Clayton Donaldson (hip) and Andrew Shinnie (hamstring) with the pair rated as only 50/50 to make the game while Neal Eardley’s shoulder injury rules him out.
Birmingham, 9th in the table, have a good record against the Bees. The club have won 5 and drawn 3 of their last 9 meetings, losing just once. In addition they have found the net in each of those encounters.
