Man United captain Wayne Rooney: I never handed in transfer request

Man United captain Wayne Rooney has denied ever handing in a transfer request despite speculation that in 2010 and 2013 he had demanded a move away from the Old Trafford side he has represented since 2004 according to the Daily Mirror.

The 29-year-old forward has opened up on difficult periods during his time at Man United during an upcoming BBC documentary, Wayne Rooney – The Man Behind The Goals.

In 2010 and 2013 contractual improvements appeared to convince Rooney to remain at Man United though the all-time record England international goal-scorer insists he never made his intention to leave ‘official’, stating;

“I said [to Sir Alex Ferguson] if you’re not going to play me it might be better if I moved on,”

“But I never put in a transfer request. I don’t know why it came out that way.”
