Manchester City won’t have home comforts to turn to as they look to pick up their maiden three points of the 2015/2016 Champions league season against Borussia Monchengladbach.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side lost 2-1 at home to Juventus in their opening game of this years’ tournament and they have since lost 2-1 to West Ham United and 4-1 to Spurs, a 4-1 win over Sunderland in the Capital One cup their own solace in a miserable few weeks.
The back to back league defeats has seen the club relinquish their hold on top spot, with their City rivals, Manchester United replacing them.
While City will head to Germany licking their wounds, Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka has warned his team-mates about under-estimating their opponents.
“Let’s face reality: there is a lot of money in that team and it’s full of superstars, and to me they are the favourites to win the Champions League,” Xhaka told Kicker.
“They also had a bad start and they have to take the points back home
“We should just relish the match against an outstanding team, but we shall not fear Man City. We need to be bold, attack high, and pressure the opponent. Maybe they underestimate us and believe they can beat us at 80 or 90 per cent.
“To be honest, I don’t even know whether at Manchester City they know Borussia Monchengladbach or the players that well.”
Xhaka and his interim boss Andre Schubert has not had their own best of starts with former manager Lucien Favre resigning after 6 consecutive defeats. However under Schubert the club claimed back-to-back Bundesliga victories over Augsburg and Stuttgart scoring seven goals in the process.
Schubert will be without Martin Stranzl and defender Tony Jantschke for the clash while for City, Fabian Delph (hamstring) and Gael Clichy (ankle) are out while Yaya Toure, Vincent Kompany, Joe Hart and David Silva are all doubts.
