Chelsea set to announce signing of experienced Italian international

Chelsea are set to officially announce the capture of free agent keeper Marco Amelia according to the Daily Star.

With Thibaut Courtois out injured until at least December it appears Jose Mourinho is pushing to bring in an experienced addition to act as back-up to Asmir Begovic.

33-year-old Italian international Amelia is without a club at present but has represented AC Milan and Genoa in recent seasons and can be brought in immediately, outside of the transfer window, and could be the ideal short-term solution to Mourinho’s predicament.

Mourinho has publicly confirmed his interest in bringing in a new custodian, stating;

“We need a goalkeeper now, not in January,”

“Helton has a contract with Porto and would only be available in January. Then Courtois will be available.” the Chelsea boss added.

Chelsea have started their Premier League title defence in abysmal fashion and they can ill afford to lose Begovic, should the Bosnian get injured Mourinho would be left to call upon Jamal Blackman and Mitchell Beeney, neither of whom have any top level experience.
