Arsenal fans had their thunder stolen by Brendan Rodgers on Sunday night.
Delighted Gooners flooded onto Twitter to hail Alexis Sanchez and boast about their side’s 3-0 win over Manchester United.
Arsenal supporters are hard to beat when it comes to social media.
However, following confirmation from Liverpool that Rodgers had been sacked as manager following his side’s 1-1 draw at Everton, Twitter’s top trending term quickly changed from ‘Arsenal’ to ‘Brendan Rodgers’.

To give competitive Twitter-proud Gooners some small consolation, ‘Ramsey’, ‘Sanchez’ ‘Ozil’ and – rather perversely – ‘#WengerOut’ were all among the top 10 trending terms in the UK at around 7pm.
Nevertheless, Rodgers was the main topic on the agenda and the best of the reaction can be read below…

Don’t feel sorry for Rodgers in the slightest. Let his arrogance and narcissism get the better of him.

Rodgers had an air of resignation in his post match interview today. I feel bad for him, but he had to go.

Glad Rodgers gone about time tbh. Out of his depth. — Ztips (@z_tips) October 4, 2015
Much as I think Rodgers genuinely cared about #lfc and had some good ideas, team is in a rut and needed a change. Klopp would be my choice.
