Newcastle United target Man United man in urgent transfer deal

Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren is ready to make a move for Man United keeper Victor Valdes following the long-term injury suffered by first-choice Magpies starter Tim Krul according to the Daily Star.

Krul ruptured an anterior cruciate ligament during international duty this week and is set to miss the remainder of the season, leaving McClaren to turn to Rob Elliot, who has made just 14 Premier League starts in his four years at St James’ Park.

Louis van Gaal signed then free agent Valdes in January but has handed the former Barcelona man just two Premier League appearances and the Spaniard is now behind David De Gea and Sergio Romero in his Man United set-up and as such can probably be considered surplus to requirements.

Van Gaal is apparently reticent about allowing Valdes to join a fellow Premier League side but given that Newcastle United, sitting bottom of the table, are hardly challenging Man United for major honours one would imagine the Old Trafford side wouldn’t stand in the way of such a move.
