Barcelona target former Man United striker as backup for MSN attack

Barcelona could be ready to hand Dutch striker Robin van Persie an unexpected route back to the top of the game by making him an offer in January to act as backup to their already impressive attacking line, according to the Daily Mail.

The 32-year-old left Manchester United over the summer to sign for Turkish giants Fenerbahce, but could make the move to the Nou Camp for just £2.2m after reportedly falling out of favour at the ?ükrü Saraco?lu stadium.

Barca are believed to be on the lookout for a cut-price forward to act as cover for Luis Suarez, Neymar and Lionel Messi, as they believe that having just three strikers isn’t enough.

Lionel Messi is already sidelined with an injury, and with Luis Suarez rated doubtful for this weekend’s clash with Rayo Vallecano, that has left Neymar to lead the line alongside youngsters Sandro and Munir El Haddadi.

This could see van Persie perform a similar role to that of Henrik Larsson, who also signed for the club late in his career upon leaving Celtic.
