Liverpool hijacking Serie A hero’s transfer to replace injured defensive ace

Just hours after star defender Joe Gomez to an ACL injury, Jurgen Klopp lost another Liverpool star with Danny Ings suffering a season-ending injury as well. As a result, the new Anfield boss has decided to target a defensive leader to fill the void.

According to the Metro, Liverpool have decided to prepare a bid for Inter Milan star center back Andrea Ranocchia, hijacking Everton’s move for the 27-year-old Italian in the process.

Ranocchia is currently in his sixth season with Inter Milan and is coming off a year where he played 33 Serie A matches, the highest total of his career. At 1.95m (6’5″) Ranocchia would also be one of the most physically imposing defenders at Anfield.

Klopp historically has shown a preference for using four defenders in his scheme, and the loss of Gomez will likely make Ranocchia the first of many potential defensive targets for the new Liverpool boss in the weeks to come.

Liverpool will not have a chance to start making serious roster changes until the next transfer window opens.
