Liverpool emerge as leaders for Porto wonderkid Ruben Neves

Jurgen Klopp has big plans for changing the Liverpool roster, and it looks like he plans to open the wallet to land one of Portugal’s fastest rising starlets, Ruben Neves.

According to the Metro, Liverpool have emerged as the frontrunners in the transfer race for the 18-year-old FC Porto midfielder. Ruben Neves made history on Tuesday against Maccabi-Tel-Aviv when he put on the captain’s armband, making him the youngest captain in Champions League history.

The Daily Mirror reported that Liverpool will be keeping a very close eye on the Portuguese star, but are very impressed with the level of leadership he has shown at such a young age.

Neves made 24 appearances and scored a goal for Porto last season, but has been immensely impressive for Portugal. He made 31 caps and scored two goals for the Under-17 team from 2012 to 2014, and now plays for the Under-21 team, making 10 caps and scoring twice as well.

Neves was on the bench for Portugal’s loss to Sweden in the Under-21 Championship this past summer.
