Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has second best-selling jersey in MLS, Chelsea great Frank Lampard trails in seventh

While arguments have raged for over a decade as to which midfielder was more popular – Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard or Chelsea’s Frank Lampard – Americans have already apparently made up their minds.

According to the Metro, Gerrard’s shirt for LA Galaxy currently ranks as the second-highest selling in Major League Soccer behind only Seattle Sounders FC ace Clint Dempsey. Lampard, meanwhile, currently ranks seventh in jersey sales representing New York City FC, and does not even have the highest selling shirt among his own teammates.

While Steven Gerrard has carved a solid niche for himself as a star midfielder at LA Galaxy and has helped the team reach both the MLS Cup Playoffs and the CONCACAF Champions League knockout round, Lampard barely played at all for the cellar-dwelling New York City FC.

The Chelsea midfield legend trails teammates David Villa (fourth) and Andrea Pirlo (fourth) in jersey sales, as well as Orlando City SC midfielder Kaka (third) and Seattle’s Obafemi Martins (sixth).

The sales news is not all bad for Lampard though; he leads reigning MLS Golden Boot winner Bradley Wright-Phillips (eighth), former teammate Didier Drogba (16th) and MLS MVP candidate Sebastian Giovinco (12th).
