Burnley and Blackburn will meet in the first Lancashire derby of the new season in Saturday’s early kick off in the Championship.
Meetings between these two tend to be tight and tense affairs with local pride ensuring that there is plenty of tempers and not much between the sides. Two of their last three meetings have seen red cards with Lee Williamson and Ben Mee both getting sent off.
Three of the last six meetings have ended all square at 1-1 while Burnley will have a slight edge heading into the fixture having won their last meeting 2-1 thanks to a late goal from Danny Ings.
Blackburn Rovers meanwhile have not beaten Burnley since their Premier League days, a 1-0 win in 2010 their last success in this fixtures.
The club will have it all to do if they are replicate that success with both sides showing contrasting league form to date. Rovers are currently 17th in the table with 12 points from 12 games.
The club picked up a hard fought point at home to Derby County midweek, the result a welcome boost following a 3-0 reversal at the hands of MK Dons four days earlier.
Despite the set-back last weekend, Rovers have been showing decent form with just one defeat in their last 6 games. That run includes wins over Charlton and Ipswich with three draws, all of which have come against sides in the top half of the table. While recent form has been decent, a run of four defeats and four draws prior to the win over Charlton has left the club already chasing shadows in the league.
Burnley meanwhile sit 5th in the table, 6 points off the top and just two points off the automatic second promotion place. Sean Dyche’s men drew with Nottingham Forest midweek, the hard fought point coming off the back of two successive wins.
