Ex-Chelsea & Everton hitman reveals how close he was to PSG transfer

Legendary striker Samuel Eto’o has revealed that he once had transfer talks with Paris Saint-Germain about a possible move to the Parc des Princes.

The Cameroonian frontman, who currently plays for Turkish side Antalyaspor, revealed to RMC that he almost moved to the French capital.

“I had the opportunity [to move to PSG] when coach Luis [Fernandez] was still there,” the 34-year-old began. “I had already seen myself playing for PSG. Before the arrival of Zlatan [Ibrahimovic], I spoke a several times with [then-sporting director Leonardo] for me to go there, but it wasn’t done.

“I have no regrets about my career. If it had have happened, I would have been happy. I am still a fan.

“For Francophone Africans, when we leave for Europe, we first think of France, and with all of the great things that George Weah did at PSG…”

Eto’o moved to Antalyaspor during the offseason, having previously enjoyed a mixed year at Everton and then Sampdoria.

Before that, he enjoyed great success with Barcelona and Inter Milan, and also featured for Real Madrid and Chelsea, where he endured a testing relationship with current Pensioners boss Jose Mourinho.

The possibility of Eto’o linking up with Zlatan at PSG is mouth-watering, with the two men having just missed each other at various clubs. The two exchanged places in 2009 when Eto’o swapped Barca for Inter, with the Swede moving in the opposite direction.

Since completing his surprise move to Antalyaspor, Eto’o—who has also represented Mallorca and Anzhi Makhachkala—has bagged seven goals in nine Super Lig outings. Despite his new club not typically ranking about Turkey’s top sides, the Indomitable Lion is joint-top of the Super Lig’s scoring charts along with Mario Gomez and Tomas Necid.
