Real Madrid star nears new contract after missing out on Manchester United transfer

Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas looks set to be offered a new contract at the Bernabeu following his superb start to the new season.

Costa Rican Navas appeared to be on the brink of a move to Premier League giants Manchester United during the summer, as he appeared to be set to be used as a makeweight in the deal to bring David De Gea to the Spanish capital.

That move, infamously, failed to come off, with both clubs failing to get the paperwork done in time.

De Gea subsequently remained in Manchester, where he has set about demonstrating his enduring class for the Red Devils this season.

For Navas, the future looked bleak, particularly following Rafael Benitez’s decision to sign Kiko Casilla as a replacement for departed Iker Casillas.

However, Navas has been a key performer for Los Blancos this term, racking up nine appearances in La Liga, featuring for the domestic giants in every one of their matches and helping Real to the division’s best defensive record—they have only conceded three goals.

According to Marca, the ex-Levante guardsman is to be offered a new deal at the club to reward him for his superb showings.
