Arsenal will make Gonzalo Higuain top transfer target if they miss out on Edinson Cavani

Arsenal are reportedly ready to make Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain their number one transfer target should they fail to land Paris Saint Germain’s Edinson Cavani, according to the Metro.

Despite currently sitting at the top of the Premier League table, Arsene Wenger is rumoured to be on the lookout for any possible reinforcements during the January transfer window (via Metro).

And according to Italian publication TuttoMercatoWeb, the Gunners are still eyeing a deal to sign PSG front man Edinson Cavani, but will turn their attentions toward the Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain if they can’t strike up a deal for the Uruguayan international.

However, the Metro also report that there could be a potential stumbling block in a deal to sign the former Real Madrid man, stating that he has a £68m release clause installed in his current deal with the Serie A side, and eccentric owner Dino De Laurentiis is unlikely to want to accept a penny less.
