Jose Mourinho has revealed that star Chelsea striker Diego Costa is currently in hospital after punching himself, the Daily Express reports.
Costa was forced off at the half time break of Chelsea’s defeat to Stoke City in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night.
As the game ended 1-1, thanks to a late equaliser by Loic Remy, The Blues crashed out of the tournament following a 5-4 defeat on penalties.
Costa limped out of the clash at the halfway point with a rib injury, following a clash with Stoke midfielder Charlie Adam.
And though Mourinho is under increasing pressure at Stamford Bridge, he confirmed that Costa had to be taken to hospital, but couldn’t resist landing a crack at the same time.
“He is in hospital – but I don’t know what the situation is,” said Mourinho.
“Is he a doubt to face Liverpool? I don’t know.
“How did the injury happen? I think he punched himself.”
Costa has been criticised for his overly physical approach at times, but got a taste of his own medicine at The Britannia as the defending Capital One Cup holders were bullied by Stoke.
