Barcelona could be handed the chance to play in the French top flight should they be kicked out of La Liga, according to the Daily Mirror.

The current French Prime Minister, Manuel Valls, is a known Barcelona fan (via Mirror) and would offer the club to chance to move over to Ligue 1 depending on the outcome of an upcoming independence vote.

Catalonia is set to hold a referendum on whether to split from the rest of Spain, and should separation be voted for, the club face being kicked out of La Liga (via Mirror).

But Valls, who was actually born in Barcelona, cited the inclusion of Monaco as to why Barca would be allowed to join in with the French league.

“Monaco play in Ligue 1, so why not Barcelona?” he said.

He added: “I’m a huge football fan, a Barca fan. They’re in my blood. France knows it and they ask me about it on the streets.”
