Cristiano Ronaldo to return to Manchester United; set for Wayne Rooney reunion

Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo are poised to play on the pitch once again in the very near future – but not for Manchester United…or at least not in the way the fans at Old Trafford would hope.

According to the Daily Star, a source close to Ronaldo confirmed that the Real Madrid and former Man United megastar has been invited to participate in Rooney’s testimonial game in August and is believed to be interested in attending.

“Ronaldo is a busy man but there was no way he would miss something like this,” the source told the Daily Star.

“It promises to be an all-star cast, but Ronaldo will be the biggest of the lot. He might even upstage Wayne himself.”

Rooney and Ronaldo both joined Man United as teenagers and played together from 2004 to 2009, capturing nine trophies including three Premier League titles and the Champions League.

United ultimately sold Ronaldo to Real Madrid for a then-record £80 million transfer fee in 2009.

Since separating, the two superstars have continued to be among the most dominant scorers in the world: Rooney became England’s all-time leading scorer during the Euro 2016 qualifiers, while Ronaldo became the all-time leading scorer for Real Madrid and the Champions League in the past few months.
