Nacho time? Arsenal star defender in talks for contract extension

Nacho Monreal has been a star for Arsenal‘s defence this season. He has played the majority of minutes in Arsene Wenger’s backline, and his consistency has helped the club maintain a top two position in the Premier League table. Now it looks like he’s about to cash in on his solid performance.

According to talkSPORT, Nacho has confirmed that he is in talks with the club about a contract extension. Over the summer, the Metro reported that there was a strong possibility Nacho would transfer to Athletic Bilbao.

“We are talking, we need to talk and reach an agreement. I wish that to happen. Of course I’d like to stay here,” the 29-year-old defender said.

Rather than force a move, Nacho used his increased reps to improve his play, and the club has recorded five clean sheets in their first 10 matches.

Nacho has played for Arsenal since 2012, but got his first taste of silverware in the 2013-14 season when Arsenal won the FA Cup. The club would repeat the following season as Nacho made a career-high 39 total appearances en route to a third-place finish in the Premier League table and a second consecutive FA Cup title.
