Arsenal are said to have been put on high alert after Lyon defender Samuel Umtiti expressed his desire to play in the Premier League in the near future, according to the Metro.
The France under-21 international is widely regarded as one of the best young defenders in Ligue 1 right now, and has also been watched by London rivals Chelsea, according to the Daily Express.
When he was recently quizzed on his ambitions for his future, he highlighted the Premier League and Spain’s La Liga as his ideal destinations.
“I’m very ambitious, I have quite a few goals, but I’ve still got many things to learn with Lyon,” he said.
“Going abroad is a dream, there are very great clubs that you dream about. England? Everyone admires that league.
“I would say I prefer the Spanish game, but to be honest, I don’t have a real preference.”
Wenger has a long history of scouting his homeland for impressive young talent, and a move for Umtiti would come as no surprise.
