Man United will need to prepare second UK transfer record to sign Harry Kane

Manchester United will need to break the British transfer record for a second time if they are to rekindle their interest in Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane during the January window, according to the Metro.

United have failed to find the back of the net in their past two games, one of which saw them crash out of the Capital One Cup to Championship side Middlesborough (via Metro).

And while Anthony Martial has come in to make an immediate impact following his summer arrival, there are grave concerns over the form of star forward Wayne Rooney, who the Metro believe could even be dropped for this weekend’s meeting with Crystal Palace.

Kane has endured a difficult beginning to the season, but the Metro reports that Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal admitted last season that he is a fan of the England international following his stunning breakthrough campaign that saw him notch up 32 goals in all competitions.

And now The Sun are reporting that United will up their efforts to bring him to Old Trafford in the new year, but will have to tempt Spurs with a bigger offer the £59.7m they paid to sign Angel Di Maria in 2014.
