Real Madrid still want Manchester United star, says Spanish football expert

Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague has expressed his belief that Real Madrid are still planning to sign Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea in the future.

The stopper had looked set to complete his Old Trafford departure and switch to the Bernabeu during the summer transfer window, but the move was aborted at the last minute and the goalkeeper ended up staying in Manchester.

While his would-be replacement Sergio Romero didn’t wholly impress during the opening weeks of the season, De Gea has shone since returning to the starting XI. He kept a clean sheet against Manchester City in the derby last weekend, and was also responsible for shutout against Crystal Palace on Saturday as Louis van Gaal’s side picked up a point at Selhurst Park.

However, even though their star man missed out on a move to the Bernabeu during the summer [Telegraph], United fans shouldn’t assume that Real have dropped interest in the keeper…at least not as far as football writer Balague is concerned.

The Spanish pundit, speaking on Sky Sports [as per Le 10 Sport], expressed his belief that Los Merengues are still considering a move for De Gea—despite their fine defensive showing so far this season.

“Keylor Navas has a contract until 2020, and according to what the club want to do, and in light of the suggestions of his agent, his salary will be increased to compensate for what happened this summer,” Balague began.

“De Gea is a potential Galactico for Real Madrid,” he continued. “The owners want him to be the club’s goalkeeper for a decade.”
