Chelsea reject £35m Monaco offer for under-fire manager Jose Mourinho

Ligue 1 side Monaco have apparently seen a stunning £35m offer to land manager Jose Mourinho knocked back by Chelsea, according to the Daily Mail.

Monaco shareholder Alessandro Proto has said that he met with Blues owner Roman Abramovic recently in London with the hope of ending the Portuguese tactician’s time at Stamford Bridge (via Mail).

Following a poor start to the campaign – and their title defence – Mourinho’s future has come under severe scrutiny in recent weeks (via Mail).

And now The Mail is claiming that Proto had been hoping to buy Mourinho out of the remainder of his contract with a £35m offer, but owner Roman Abramovic sought to reject the deal by insisting that Mourinho would be staying in West London until 2019.

Ambramovic’s rejection of a deal to get rid of Mourinho would seem to suggest that the owner has faith in his manager to turn the club’s current run of form around and get them back on track for a push for the top four.
