Arsenal defender Gabriel thought club’s main rivals were Chelsea and not ‘irrelevant’ Spurs

Arsenal defender Gabriel has admitted that he thought the club’s main rivals were Chelsea and not Tottenham ahead of this weekend’s North London Derby, the Metro reports.

The 24-year-old will sample his first clash with Spurs on Sunday, but has revealed that he thought The Blues posed more of a threat to Arsenal’s ambitions, thus making them Arsenal’s main rivals, and not Spurs.

“Trying to win those matches is very difficult and I think the main rival is Tottenham,” the defender told ArsenalTVHD.

“People talk about it a lot here and I was told about it when I first arrived. I always thought that the main rival was Chelsea but my team mates told me that Tottenham is the main rival.

“That makes the derby a lot harder.”

Gabriel was recently called up to the Brazil squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Argentina and Peru, so will be hoping to get some minutes on Sunday in preparation.
