Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored his 14th goal of the Bundesliga season on Sunday as Borussia Dortmund defeated Schalke 3-2 in the Revierderby.

The result keeps BVB firmly in the hunt for the German title, and they keep the pressure on Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich, who defeated Stuttgart 4-0 on Saturday.

While the Bavarians’ victory leaves the reigning champions in top spot—five points clear of their rivals—Thomas Tuchel’s side have won their last four games and appear to have momentum on their side in the title race.

Shinji Kagawa and Matthias Ginter both found the net for the home side, and while Jan-Klaas Huntelaar responded twice, BVB held on to triumph thanks to Aubameyang’s second-half effort.

The Gabon striker—who has been nominated for the African Player of the Year award—is enjoying a remarkable campaign, and a thoroughly awesome year of goalscoring.

After breaking the Bundesliga record for scoring in consecutive league matches at the beginning of a season, he has managed 14 efforts in 12 starts in the German top flight so far this season.

His strikes leave him joint first in the division’s scoring charts, where he is tied with Bayern’s Robert Lewandowski.

Aubameyang’s fine form will doubtless see the perpetuation of rumours linking him with a move away from Germany in January. Arsenal—for whom Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott continue to underperform—have been linked with a move for the forward, while Jurgen Klopp may yet look to prompt a reunion with one of his former charges at the Westfalenstadion.
