Arsenal star breaks Premier League record as Spurs are held

Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil broke a Premier League record when he contributed the assist for Kieran Gibbs’s goal against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

In providing the assist, Ozil became the first player in the history of the EPL to contribute an assist in six consecutive league matches in the same season.

Ozil’s run began back in September when he contributed an assist in the 5-2 victory over Leicester. He then followed that up with decisive contributions against Manchester United, Watford and Everton.

He contributed two assists against Swansea City, before proving influential against Tottenham as the Gunners clawed back from a goal down to take a point from their vicious rivals.

Spurs took the lead at the home of their vicious rivals through a Harry Kane effort, before substitute Gibbs struck past Hugo Lloris from close range.

The draw keeps the Gunners level on points with leaders Manchester City, and if Ozil can keep up his superb run—he has contributed 10 assists in 11 games to date—he may well be the catalyst for an unexpected title tilt.
