Moyes SACKED by Sociedad; new favourite to replace Mourinho at Chelsea?

BBC Sport have confirmed that David Moyes has been sacked by La Liga side Real Sociedad.

The Basque side are enduring a nightmarish campaign and, after 11 matches, sit 18th in the Spanish top flight, finding themselves in the midst of a relegation battle. Sociedad have won only two of their games to date, losing six, and have accrued only nine points.

Despite a 4-0 win over Levante, the side have lost four of their last five matches, and as a consequence, Moyes has paid the price with his job.

La Real’s decision could have knock-on effects in the Premier League; could Roman Abramovich be tempted to bring him to Stamford Bridge as a potential replacement for Jose Mourinho?

In Moyes, Chelsea would find a coach surely desperate to patch-up his damaged reputation in England.

The Portuguese coach has found himself under increasing pressure after a string of bad results, and Chelsea find themselves 16th in the EPL—on 11 points—after 12 matches, a dismal return for the champions.

According to Sky Bet, Moyes is currently 50/1 to take over at Stamford Bridge should Mourinho be relieved of his duties. However, with the Scot now a free agent, he could be the ideal solution for the Pensioners, should Abramovich be seeking a short-term fire-fighter to pull them clear of a relegation battle.

Will the former Manchester United and Everton boss soon be on his way back to England?
