The Athletic Bilbao youngster made an impression in the Spanish top flight last season with a series of crucial efforts, but the 21-year-old’s profile was boosted further with a sublime effort against Espanyol on Sunday.
Williams picked up possession with his back to goal and lifted the ball over the defender with one touch before lashing a sublime volley into the top corner of the goal.
Athletic later doubled their lead when Raul Garcia, despite tumbling, managed to direct his header beyond the Espanyol keeper.
