Chelsea target former Man United star Chicarito as Diego Costa replacement

If the recent reports of Chelsea striker Diego Costa’s impending departure from Stamford Bridge are any indication, Jose Mourinho will need to have a new striker all lined up to take his place. Rather than break the bank for Ronaldo or Paul Pogba, Jose Mourinho looks to have his eyes on Bayer Leverkusen striker Javier “Chicarito” Hernandez.

According to ESPN FC, Chicarito and Valencia star Paco Alcacer are the two strikers high on Mourinho’s list as January transfer targets. Chicarito has made a seamless transition to Bundesliga after two straight seasons failing to meet expectations for Manchester United.

Chicarito has scored six times in his last five appearances for Leverkusen and has scored ten times in all competitions since joining the club on transfer in late August. He is the second-leading scorer in the history of Mexico with 42 goals in 76 caps for the national team.

The 22-year-old Alcacer is a rising star in European football, scoring five times in La Liga this season and another five for Spain in the Euro 2016 qualifiers.

Chelsea striker Diego Costa has just two Premier League goals this season after recording 12 goals in the first 12 games of last season. The club has scored just 16 goals all season and are currently 16th on the Premier League table.
